2-Alarm Brush Fire Erupts In Simi Valley
SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA) – Firefighters were quickly able to contain a 9-acre two-alarm brush fire that broke out in the Tapo Canyon area of Simi Valley Wednesday morning.
The Tapo Fire was reported before 9 a.m. near Tapo Canyon and Los Canyon roads, about three miles north of the 118 Freeway.
The fire initially uphill at a rapid rate, the Ventura County Fire Department reported. Air tankers and water-dropping helicopters were used to battle the flames, along with about 75 firefighters on the ground. Firefighters made good progress on the blaze and had it fully contained by 11:06 a.m., VCFD said.
No structures were threatened and there were no serious injuries. A firefighter suffered a minor heat-related injury.
Firefighters were expected to remain on scene through at least 2 p.m. The public was asked to avoid Tapo Canyon Road, north of Presidio Drive.
The cause of the fire was not known.
