2 Families Killed In Tragic Fiery Crash In Gorman

GORMAN (CBSLA.com) — Two families were tragically killed Tuesday in a fiery multi-vehicle crash in Gorman.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, a big rig and a van collided around 3:30 a.m. on the 5 Freeway, located just south of Gorman School Road.

Upon their arrival, authorities learned the rental van was on the shoulder of the freeway when it was struck by the truck, which erupted in flames upon impact.

Authorities located eight people, comprised of two families, inside of the van.

Paramedics pronounced two mothers and their four young children dead at the scene. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending family notification.

Two men, who were husbands and fathers to the victims, were transported to a hospital for treatment of burn injuries to their arms and faces. An update on their conditions was not immediately available.

It remains unclear if the truck driver sustained any injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
