17,525-Acre Lake Fire South Of Big Bear Lake Now 33 Percent Contained

BIG BEAR LAKE (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters continued to battle a wildfire Tuesday that they say remained active in the San Bernardino mountains south of Big Bear Lake.

The Lake Fire has grown to 17,525 acres and was at 33 percent containment, authorities reported.

The fire was reported just before 4 p.m. June 17 in the Barton Flats area.

It prompted the evacuation of several campsites, as well as the closure of State Highway 38 from Angelus Oaks to Lake Williams.

Authorities said evacuations remain in effect for areas east of Angelus Oaks.

That includes Barton Flats, Seven Oaks, Rainbow Lane, Heart Bar and Onyx Summit.

Although the fire was threatening approximately 500 structures, none have been damaged or destroyed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
