12th Teen Surrenders In Sexual Assaults At Venice High School

VENICE (CBSLA.com) — A 15-year-old boy turned himself into police Tuesday in connection with sexual assaults that occurred at Venice High School.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, 11 high school students ages 14-17 were arrested Friday on suspicion of sexual assault and unlawful sex with a minor.

Two additional suspects remain outstanding.

On March 10, authorities were notified by school administrators about possible sex crimes that involved two girls, which spanned from December 2013 to March of this year.

Students said explicit pictures of the victims engaging in sex acts with boys have circulated on social media.

According to police, some of the sexual acts may have been forced, while others appeared to be consensual.

The assaults took place on and off the campus of Venice High School, authorities said.

An LAUSD spokesperson explained three counselors were assigned to help students, staff members and parents deal with the investigation on Monday.

At this time, no other victims are suspected to be involved in this case, authorities added.

Officials plan to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office to file charges against the students.

According to the school district, each student will go through a process with the district's disciplinary unit to determine whether they will be expelled.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department's West Bureau Sexual Assault Section at (213) 473-0447.
