Driver Slams Into Parked Cars At Taco Stand, Killing 11-Year-Old Girl

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Police say a car slammed into a Boyle Heights taco stand Friday night, killing an 11-year-old girl and injuring three others.

The accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Marietta Street.

Police say a 21-year-old man driving a Mustang at a high rate of speed lost control and slammed into two parked cars, sending those cars into four pedestrians. The other injuries are not life-threatening.

Witnesses say the driver may have been trying to leave until others kept him there until police arrived. Police are not sure if street racing or alcohol was involved.

Police did say it was possible the car was equipped with some kind of tank that could have given the vehicle an extra boost of speed.
