$1,000 Reward For Ashes Nabbed From OC Widow's Home

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — A $1,000 reward is being offered for ashes taken during a burglary at a widow's home.

Thieves nabbed the remains, stored in a locked black lacquer box, last Wednesday while ransacking a home in the Shiffer Park area.

Police say the thief probably didn't know what was inside the box initially.

The owner of the home says the urn carried the ashes of her late husband.

The Costa Mesa Police Officers Association offered up the reward to encourage their return, and insist no questions will be asked.

Anyone with information about the stolen ashes should call Detective J. Barnes at (714) 754-5198.
