Armed Suspect Wounded In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A man was taken to a hospital following a deputy-involved shooting in Compton, authorities said.

Deputies were called to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of South Atlantic Drive about 3:55 p.m. Monday for a "man with a gun" call.

When they arrived, they found the suspect in a silver sedan, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Deputies say the man attempted to drive out of an apartment complex and was ordered to shut off his vehicle.

"The suspect then produced a handgun and pointed it at the deputies," the statement said. "It was at this time that a deputy-involved shooting occurred."

The suspect was struck multiple times in the torso. He was taken to a hospital. His condition was not known.

No deputies were injured.

The LASD said a 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.

No further information was available.
