Woman Arrested In Fatal Beating Of Man On Train Platform To Be Arraigned

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman arrested in the beating death of a 65-year-old man at a Metro Blue Line station was expected to appear in court Thursday.

Officials believe 24-year-old Tracy Gomez and her friend, 23-year-old Virginia Butler, beat John Whitmore at the Willowbrook train station on June 13.

Gomez was arrested Sunday night in Hawthorne, and Butler was taken into custody at her home in Los Angeles around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The women are believed to have gotten into an argument with Whitmore, who was waiting for a train, before they started kicking and punching him until he collapsed, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Kim Manatt said.

Whitmore died from his injuries a week later, according to authorities.

Both women are being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Butler is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
