Man killed after being beaten and ran over in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills police arrested a man accused of killing a person during a verbal altercation on Friday afternoon. 

Officers said at about 12:42 p.m. San Bernardino resident Christopher Cornelius, 54, beat a man with a metal object multiple times before getting into his vehicle and running him over near the intersection of Wilshire and San Vicente Boulevards. 

Witnesses told CBS LA that the victim was trying to get up before Cornelius allegedly hit him with his car. They added that the victim was dragged along the road until Cornelius stopped and ran into a nearby building.

Officers quickly located him and placed him in custody, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department. 

Paramedics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. 

Cornelius has been booked with murder. His bail is set at $2 million. Beverly Hills PD said Cornelius has an extensive criminal record that includes violent crimes.
