1 Of 2 Shot Dead In East Hollywood Is Identified As Police Search For Suspected Shooter

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities released the identity of one of two people who were shot and killed in East Hollywood Friday night.

Walter Martinez Jr., 23, of Los Angeles was identified by a coroner's official as one of two men killed when authorities say shots were fired at a group that had gathered.

The men were standing on Heliotrope Drive near the 101 Freeway and Melrose Avenue when gunfire rang out shortly before 8 p.m. Friday.

The identity of the other victim who died at the scene has not been released.

Two others were injured. Both have undergone surgery, though their current conditions were not known.

A motive for the shooting was not known, but police were looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.

Authorities have asked that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
