1 Man Dead, 2 Injured In Montecito Heights Shooting

MONTECITO HEIGHTS (CBSLA) — Los Angeles police are investigating a fatal shooting early Saturday morning that left one man dead and two men injured.

A 21-year-old man, identified as Victor Cortez Jr., died from the injuries he sustained. An 18 year old and a 19 year old were also shot and survived.

The shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. at near the intersection of E. Avenue 43 and Griffin Avenue in Montecito Heights.

According to LAPD, as the two men left a liquor store, a vehicle pulled up and a suspect got out of the car and began arguing with them.

At some point, the suspect pulled a gun and opened fire on the three men.

Initial police reports said the shooting might have been a drive-by and could be gang related.

Police said the suspect is a Hispanic male who was with a Hispanic female.
