Officers responded to the call at 525 West Highland Avenue around 1:09 p.m., San Bernardino City Fire officials said.

The violence erupted when two men began fighting in front of a couple of restaurants, when one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Bystanders flung themselves to the ground to avoid the crossfire.

One of the men in the argument was shot.

Police say two other people were struck by gunfire. None of the injuries were life-threatening, San Bernardino Police Lt. Rich Lawhead said.

"Glass was shattered all over the place," witness Renae Jones said.

Bullets shattered the glass of a laundromat business in the strip mall. Two bullets pierced the window of a SUV parked nearby. A woman inside was not injured.

"Thank God she didn't get hit. I don't know how she didn't get hit," Jones said.
