Suspect Dead In South LA Officer-Involved Shooting

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A man reportedly seen with a knife died Tuesday in a shooting with LAPD officers in South Los Angeles.

Los Angeles police said a sergeant was notified about a man who with a knife at 28th and Central and South LA at about 8 a.m. When the sergeant went to the area, he saw the shirtless suspect randomly confronted at least one person, who ran away in fear, police said.

The sergeant requested backup to the scene, police said. When officers tried to stop the suspect, police say he was confrontational. Officers opened fire at some point, and the man was fatally shot.

Aerial footage showed a firefighter pulling a white sheet over what looked to be a body, near a blood trail.

The man was not immediately identified.
