1 Dead Of Gunshot Wounds In Downtown LA High Rise, Police Investigating

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Police locked down a downtown residential building and surrounding streets Thursday night while they investigated a deadly shooting.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department said they found a man in his 30s or 40s, who had been shot, in the lobby of the Watermarke Tower, 705 W. Ninth St. Police said they attempted to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

The man's identity was not immediately known, nor was it known if the man lived in the building or was visiting someone.

Officers said they were looking for help from the public to collect information, and said that they had not located a shooter or shooters.

"We are trying to talk to every possible witness, and we are also trying to review every possible video within the building and outside of the building," a police spokesperson said. "We're looking for any leads that might give us a motive as to why this crime occurred."

Police said they did not know much about what happened at the building around 7 p.m. when the initial call came in, but said that it was possible the man was shot somewhere around the 24th floor and then rode the elevator down into the lobby where he was found.
