1 Dead In Torrance Apartment Fire That Burned 6 Units

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — One person died in an apartment building fire in Torrance early Sunday morning that burned six units, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 2 a.m., as concerned neighbors looked watched flames erupting from the Kona-Kai apartment building at 22413 Ocean Avenue. Neighbors at first reported they heard an explosion, but the sound was later determined by firefighters to be windows popping.

When firefighters arrived, one victim was dead. The victim's apartment was entirely consumed by fire, with the flames coming out of windows on both sides, Torrance firefighters said.

Firefighters put out the flames by 2:15 a.m. Six units in total were burned. The victim's name has not been released. Arson investigators on Sunday morning were on the scene.
