1 Dead In Granada Hills Car and Big-Rig Crash

GRANADA HILLS (CBSLA.com)  — A crash on Thursday night involving a big rig and a passenger vehicle in Granada Hills has killed one person, authorities said.

Around 8:40 p.m. on the 1700 block of Rinaldi Street near  Andasol Avenue, a sedan slammed into a parked big rig and caught fire, killing the sedan's sole occupant, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Firefighters quickly put out the blaze and pronounced the man dead at the scene, said Brian Humphrey of the LAFD. There was no one in the big rig.

The coroner will determine if the victim died from the crash, the fire or both. The man was badly trapped in the wreckage and was beyond the help of rescuers, Humphrey said.

Police later closed a portion of Rinaldi Street near the crash site.
