1 dead, 4 injured after wrong-way crash in West Covina

Authorities are still investigating the cause of a deadly wrong-way crash that happened in West Covina early Friday morning. 

The collision, which killed one person and injured five others, happened just after 12:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of W. Puente Avenue between N. Orange Avenue and N. Sunset Avenue, according to the West Covina Police Department. 

Upon arrival, police found that the driver of a black Toyota sedan collided head on with a white Honda sedan.

Paramedics pronounced a man in the backseat of the Honda dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified. 

Three other passengers, two men and a woman, were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries listed as critical and stable, according to police. One of the victims has since been released from the hospital following treatment. 

Police say that the driver of the Toyota was also hospitalized in critical condition.
