1 Dead, 1 Seriously Hurt When Car Crashes Into Moreno Valley Palm Tree

MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities said one person was killed and another seriously hurt after a car slammed into a palm tree in Moreno Vally.

The accident occurred in the 26300 block of Ironwood Avenue, just before sunrise, said police.

Deputies were called to the scene around 6:24 a.m., about a mile north of the 605 Freeway.

On arrival, deputies found a silver Honda Accord with two people trapped inside.

The vehicle was traveling west on Ironwood when it swerved across the eastbound lanes and crashed into the tree, a Riverside  County Sheriff's news release said.

The driver, identified as Billy Thavixay, 21, of Perris, was pronounced dead at the scene, coroner's officials said.

A 19-year-old passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle. The passenger was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but officials expect the victim to survive.
