1 Dead, 1 Critically Injured After Street-Racing Crash In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) —  One person was dead and another critically injured Tuesday after a street racing crash.

The accident occurred around 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Temple Avenue in Long Beach, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, two cars where racing when a yellow 2003 Honda S2000, traveling westbound on Ocean Boulevard, lost control and "collided into two palm trees located on the south side of Ocean Boulevard directly across the intersection at Orizaba Avenue."

Both occupants were ejected from the car, police said.

The passenger, a 27-year-old Long Beach man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene. he was questioned and later released.

Ocean reopened, between Temple and Redondo Boulevard, just before 6 a.m. Tuesday following an investigation.
