Pedestrian killed after crash involving LAPD officers

Firefighters rushed to help seven people after a Los Angeles police officer and two other cars crashed in Hollywood on Monday.

The collision happened in the 6000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard at about 3:50 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Six people suffered minor injuries while the pedestrian suffered critical injuries. Paramedics took the pedestrian and two others to a nearby hospital. The pedestrian died at the hospital shortly after. 

None of the people transported to the hospital were officers. 

The Los Angeles Police Department said that the officers were traveling northbound on Gower Street when another vehicle driving westbound on Santa Monica struck the police vehicle when it was in the north crosswalk of he intersection. 

The officers' car then spun around, striking the pedestrian in the process 

Investigators will not release the victim's identity until they notify the next of kin. Detectives said the exact cause of the collision remains unclear.
