Topic: Should Playdates Be Banished?

A stay-at-home dad and blogger wrote recently that playdates should be a thing of the past. He says they put too many constraints on how and when kids should play and makes him feel like he should entertain the mom/dad who comes over.

"This idea that two kids playing together has to be an event is altering the spontaneity of our children. It has become too formal with set dates and times and has rendered my son incapable of calling his friends because he feels awkward asking, especially when a grown up answers."

In the blog, he reminisces about being a kid and calling his list of friends to play, then spending hours coming up with games and being creative.

You can read his full blog post here.

Do you agree with him? Should playdates be banished?
