Large Grass Fire In Rural Area West Of Roseville Fully Contained

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) - A large grass fire has burned about 614 acres in southwest Placer County, and is fully contained.

The Baseline Fire burned the area near Base Line Road and Country Acres Lane, due west of Roseville and northwest of the community of Elverta.  Baseline Road was closed between Watt Avenue and Palladay Road.

A thick plume of smoke could be seen rising from the mostly rural area. Cal Fire says structures were threatened.

Ground and air units responded to fight the fire. Cal Fire, Sacramento Metro Fire, Penryn Fire, South Placer Fire, and Roseville City Fire assisted in the firefight.

Gibson Ranch, which is south of the fire, was also evacuated.

Exactly what started the fire is unclear.
