Cement Truck Involved In Deadly Crash On Highway 50 Near Sunrise Boulevard

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – Traffic was seriously backing up on eastbound Highway 50 in the Rancho Cordova area Wednesday morning due to a deadly crash.

The incident happened a little after 8 a.m. just west of Sunrise Boulevard.

According to California Highway Patrol, there was a Toyota Tercel that was pulled over on the shoulder. At some point, the driver tried to get back onto the freeway. A Toyota Prius then rear-ended the Tercel - pushing the car onto the freeway at the same time a cement truck was passing through.

The cement truck broadsided the Tercel, killing the right front passenger.

Officers say the driver of the Tercel and the Prius were taken to the hospital, but both are expected to survive.

All lanes were reopened on the highway a little after 10 a.m.

Residual delays were present on eastbound Highway 50 through the morning.
