Hanukkah Paper Pulled After Woman Sees Swastikas

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Hanukkah gift-wrapping paper is being pulled from stores nationwide after a Los Angeles woman said there were swastikas in the design.

Cheryl Shapiro, who lives in the San Fernando Valley community of Porter Ranch, says she went to a Walgreens store on Saturday with her grandson to buy gift wrapping for the Jewish holiday, which begins next week.

Shapiro says she was looking at some silver-and-blue paper when she noticed what appeared to be swastikas embedded in the pattern.

Shapiro says she spoke to the store manager, who was appalled.

The Los Angeles Daily News says the paper — which was made by Hallmark and sold exclusively at Walgreens — is being removed from stores.

The paper also says Hallmark apologized for what it calls an unintentional offense.
