Full memorial service for Good Day Sacramento reporter Big Al

Alvin "Big Al" Sams was remembered at a memorial service on Thursday.

The service was at 1 p.m. at the Center of Praise Ministries at 2223 Capitol Avenue in Sacramento. The public was invited to attend the service. Good Day also streamed the service, which can be viewed in the video player above.

Big Al was a part of Northern California television and radio for more than 25 years before his death at the age of 55 in February.

The church was packed with family and friends.

"We often talked about him being a giant, not just in stature, but in heart. His passion for people, his love for the community, it's why we have to celebrate him in a big way," Bishop Parnell M. Lovelace Jr. said.

Among those who appreciated that more than most was good friend comedian Steph Sanders, who says one of Big Al's greatest gifts was his ability to make everyone feel like they were the center of his attention.

"He was so gracious with his time and energy and always smiling. He was always present with you," Sanders said.

One of Big Al's favorite charities was Miracle University. A donation page has been set up in Big Al's memory.
