Youth Soccer Coach To Stand Trial On Accusations He Molested Daughter's Teammate At Sleepover

ROSEVILLE (WWJ/AP) - A district judge has ordered a 33-year-old Macomb County man to stand trial in connection with the molestation of a 12-year-old girl who played on one of his soccer teams.

The girl testified at Jason Niemasz's preliminary examination Wednesday that the incident occurred during a Nov. 14 sleepover with friends at his Roseville home, according to a report in The Macomb Daily.

The girl eventually told her parents and after a four-week investigation, Niemasz was arrested on Dec. 10. He's charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The girl told the court that she met Niemasz's daughter while playing soccer with the American Youth Soccer Organization in Warren, where Niemasz has coached for four years.

That night at the sleepover, the girl said she woke up to go to the bathroom and Niemasz called her into his room. He closed the door behind her and that's when the alleged assault took place. The girl said she told him to stop, according to the newspaper, but he ignored her.

Defense attorney Steven Kaplan admitted the girl played on one of Niemasz's teams, but said the coach denies the allegations.

Niemasz remains jailed on a $100,000 bond. He's due back in court on Jan. 11.

Investigators have said Niemasz might have victimized other children. Police are urging any other potential victims to speak with their parents and report the assault. Any victim who wishes to come forward can contact police at 586-447-4510.
