You Might Think You've Cleaned It, But Start Fresh Recommends Health Department
DETROIT (WWJ) - As more rain hit Metro Detroit, thousands of residents, like Darrin Lacey of Inkster, were still cleaning up following flooding from last week's storms.
"Sewage and ground water - both," said Lacey, "after so many days it finally went down - after the sewer systems drained out, I guess."
He says the smell was horrible and the situation was exacerbated as he had just gotten out of the hospital, "it was really bad for me."
Lacey, speaking with Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett, outside of the Wayne County Health Department offices in the city of Wayne -- is the site of an emergency response center for those in need.
It's not a pretty picture said Leah from Warren.
"Watching everybody on the block repeatedly fill up their front lawns with garbage, all day, every day, for a week," she said.
Be sure to toss out items that have been water-soaked like carpets, couches, and mattresses
"You might think you've cleaned it up - but I would start fresh," said Dr. Vinny Teneja.
