You Could Be The Next Voice Of Kellogg's Tony The Tiger

BATTLE CREEK (WWJ) - Do you think you're "GR-R-REAT" enough to fill the shoes of cereal's most beloved mascot?

Michigan-based Kellogg is looking for a new voice of Tony the Tiger, following the death of former "Big 8" news anchor Lee Marshall. Marshall had been the voice of the Frosted Flakes mascot for nearly 10 years, following in the footsteps of the legendary Thurl Ravenscroft, who was the voice of Tony the Tiger for decades until his death in 2005.

John Sheehy, who works with the Kellogg account via Chicago's Leo Burnett ad agency, said they're looking for someone who can maintain that "basso profondo" -- or deep bass -- that Tony is known for.

"There's a lot of voiceover talent, but there's that certain timber that comes with the 'They're GR-R-REAT' and that's hard to capture," Sheehy told WWJ's Scott Ryan. "It's really looking for that tone of voice and keeping that consistency with the voice. Certainly, there will be minor differences."

Sheehy said they're expecting hundreds of people to send in voice tracks when a formal search begins, likely within the next few months.
