WWI Vet To Be Honored In Special Ceremony Almost 100 Years After Death

WYANDOTTE (WWJ) - He died nearly 100 years ago. And now, plans are in place to give a World War One veteran -- buried here in Southeast Michigan -- the proper military funeral he never received.

Where he is from, no one is exactly sure, but what is known about Michael Doyle is that he served in WWI in France and died while in Wyandotte in 1922 and was buried at Oakwood Cemetery.

Commander of American Legion Post 217, Bob Salamon, says that will soon change.

"We do from 150-200 funerals a year," he says. "And this by far is the most moving thing to me because this guy died 93 years ago."

Doyle will be the center of special service on July 25.

"To be able to do something like this is just a great thing," says Salamon.
