Would-Be Mugger Critically Injured In Shootout With CPL Holder

DETROIT (WWJ) - An armed robber got more than he bargained for when he chose the wrong person to hold up in Detroit -- a concealed-pistol holder.

The incident unfolded around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday on Ohio Street and Beechdale Avenue, in a west side neighborhood near Grand River Avenue and Oakman Boulevard.

The suspect approached a man on the street, drew his weapon and announced a hold up. But to the robber's surprise, that man was also packing heat. He pulled out a gun of his own and a shootout ensued.

The robber received a gunshot wound to the chest. He was last reported in critical condition at a hospital.

The would-be victim was uninjured. Police told reporters he's a licensed concealed-pistol holder. At this time, it's unclear if he's facing any charges related to the incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
