Woman Found Dead On Detroit Street Apparent Victim Of Hit-And-Run Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a woman who was found dead on a street in northwest Detroit was the apparent victim of a hit-and-run crash.

The woman's body was found early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Midland and Belden streets, in a neighborhood just east of Livernois Avenue and the Lodge Freeway.

The victim is a female, but no other details on her identity have been released.

A cause of death wasn't immediately clear. However, authorities say the woman is believed to have been fatally struck by a driver who fled the scene.

A description of a possible suspect and the vehicle have not yet been released.

Neighbors say they woke to police lights and came outside to see what was going on.

"I saw they were at the end of the street so I walked down there and there was a lady laying there," said one man, who did not want to be named.

"I just seen a body laying in the street and that was it. I looked at her, but I never seen her before," said John McCord. "I just turned around and came back when police started clearing the area."

Reporting live from the scene around 6 a.m., WWJ's Mike Campbell said police officers were going door to door in the neighborhood, looking for anyone who might have seen or heard anything.

A party store located near where the woman's body was found does appear to have security cameras. Police are hoping to talk with the store owners to review the footage and see if anything was caught on camera.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600.
