Woman Waving Gun Prompts Lockdown At Farmington Hills Schools

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Things are back to normal at two Farmington Hills School buildings after a precautionary lockdown Monday morning.

Sgt. Steve King says the lockdown came after police received several 911 calls from drivers along Grand River Ave. near Botsford Hospital

"Motorists passing by observed a female that they believed to be waving some type of weapon," King told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill. "They didn't know if she was flagging traffic down or she was waving it at them."

King said police responded to the scene and set up a perimeter. They were looking for a blonde woman witnesses said appeared to be in her 40s, wearing jeans, a dark coat and a pink hat.

"An investigation led us to locate her. We recovered what we believe to be an air soft gun, and we are addressing what medical needs she needs at this time," King said.

Nearby Farmington Community School/Farmington Central High School and Lanigan Elementary, on Shiawasee and Tuck roads, were on lockdown for about a half hour, according to King.

No one was hurt.
