Woman Taken Into Custody After Police Standoff In Southwest Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a police standoff in southwest Detroit has ended peacefully, with a woman under arrest.

The situation unfolded early Thursday morning at a home on Cahalan Street off Central Avenue, in a neighborhood not far from Springwells Street and I-75.

The woman had been holed up in the home for hours after allegedly shooting her brother in the leg during an argument over money. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, although his current condition is unknown.

Other circumstances surrounding the incident weren't immediately clear.

Michelle Karagozian, who has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years, said the commotion woke her up but she wasn't scared. She wasn't even startled.

"I would be surprised that it would be a woman, not that there would be somebody in their house with a lot of guns in this area, no," she said.

An investigation is ongoing.
