Woman Injured During Plane Crash At Detroit Fireworks Dies 9 Days Later

DETROIT (WWJ) - A woman who was injured during a small plane crash during the annual fireworks display along the Detroit River late last month has died.

Theresa Surles, who was hit with a live power line that was brought down during the June 27 crash, died Wednesday.

Surles, 38, was getting out of her car when the Cessna crash landed in her neighborhood near Cooper and Shoemaker, in the area of I-94 and Gratiot.

Police say the airplane, which was flying a banner over the giant crowd of bystanders nearby, ran out of gas. The 18-year-old pilot was not hurt.
