Woman Hospitalized After Giving Away Money To Strangers

CANTON (WWJ) - A Canton woman with a medical condition is hospitalized after handing out her money to Detroiters.

Family members of the 35-year-old woman who has a medical condition alerted police after they hadn't heard from her in a while.

Canton Police Sergeant Chad Baugh says they followed the woman's trail to Detroit, where she had been using her debit card ... apparently to give money away to people in the city.

"She would meet people and offer different opportunities for them and they agreed to it and they drove around with her throughout the night in her car to different ATMs in different locations, local shops in Detroit - where she would buy products for not only for them but herself too," said Sgt. Baugh.

Those products included food and drinks.

Baugh says she also gave away the car she was driving.

Baugh says they found her at a hospital, where she was taken after walking into a Detroit bank and because of her medical condition, employees thought she was trying to rob them.
