Woman Dies After Entering Lake Michigan With Infant

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A 21-year-old woman has died after authorities said she entered Lake Michigan while holding an infant.

Milwaukee police say the woman went into the water near the McKinley Marina on Monday afternoon. Witnesses told police it appeared she was trying to drown herself and the child.

Officers pulled the two from the water. Deputy Fire Chief Terry Lintonen tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that neither had a pulse or was breathing.

Paramedics were able to revive the child. But authorities later reported that the woman died. Additional details were not immediately available.
