Woman Charged In Razor Blade Attack On Detroit Officer

DETROIT (AP) - Authorities have charged a 33-year-old woman with attempting to murder a Detroit police officer, accusing her of slashing his face with a razor blade.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Angel Birch was arraigned Monday and ordered held on a $25,000 bond.

The judge has scheduled a probable cause hearing Dec. 19. Court records don't list a lawyer for Birch.

Police say officers answered a call Saturday morning about a suspicious person at a home on the city's northwest side. Police say a woman answered the door and cut one officer multiple times.

He was treated for his injuries.

Police Chief James Craig says the attack shows the need for officers to get stun guns. He says the threat of stun guns can defuse many volatile situations.
