Woman Charged In Crash That Killed Driver, Man In Wheelchair

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit woman has been charged in a crash on the city's west side that killed the driver of a second vehicle and a man in a wheelchair.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Tuesday that 25-year-old Brittany Garrett was jailed after being arraigned on operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and other charges.

A vehicle ran a stop sign on May 29 and struck another vehicle, which swerved onto a sidewalk and hit the wheelchair. The collision killed the 51-year-old driver of the second car and the man in the wheelchair.

Detroit police say the driver of the first vehicle fled, but was later identified at an area hospital.

A probable cause conference is scheduled Thursday. A preliminary examination is set for June 15.
