Woman Charged After Shooting At People Picking Apples On Her Property

CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (AP) - A woman in northern Michigan has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after firing at a couple picking apples from her property.

Charlevoix County prosecutor Allen Telgenhof says 30-year-old Shawn Beeler wasn't in any danger when she fired a gun on Sept. 15. No one was injured.

Telgenhof says two people on all-terrain vehicles stopped on a road in Chandler Township and picked apples that were in a ditch or on trees on the edge of Beeler's property.

He says Beeler admits firing. She told investigators she just wanted to scare the couple. Defense attorney Kraag (Craig) Lieberman couldn't be reached for comment Friday.

Telgenhof says Beeler faces four felonies but a plea deal to lesser charges is possible. The next court date is Tuesday.
