How to prepare yourself for severe weather

(CBS DETROIT) - It may be spring, but it looks and feels like winter.

NEXT Weather/CBS Detroit

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair, Lapeer and Sanilac counties until midnight Friday.

Snow accumulations ramped up during the morning hours; now, for the afternoon, there have been some breaks. However, expect another wave (not as intense) to arrive in the evening.

Most areas picked up this morning about 2 to 4 inches of snow, of course, depending on where you live. Any additional snowfall accumulations will remain minor consisting of generally 1 to 3 inches, with a transition over to some rain for our southern zones.

Road conditions are improving, but still use caution if you are traveling anywhere. Tonight we will watch for a re-freeze, with temperatures falling into the 20s. Later this evening, by 10 p.m. we will have improving weather conditions as the last snowflakes fall from this winter system.

Drier and breezy conditions this weekend with some of the new snowpack melting.
