Winter Is Coming: First Snowfall Reported In Michigan

MARQUETTE (WWJ) - Old Man Winter is knocking on our door.

We're barely a month into fall and already, snow is falling in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

It wasn't much, just some flakes mixed in with rain, but the National Weather Service in Marquette recorded its first snowfall of the season on Friday, October 21.

"Some of the heavier showers did actually contain a decent amount of snow," NWS Meteorologist Todd Kluber told WWJ's Dave Ramos. "We didn't see any accumulation with it, most of that snow melted on contact, but there were a couple times where it was almost all snow."

Last year the first snowfall of the season was recorded on October 16, which coincidentally was also a Friday, in Bessemer, just outside of Ironwood in the UP.

Luckily, temperatures are a little too warm down here in the Lower Peninsula for us to see any of the white stuff just yet. But don't get too comfortable, you know it's coming!
