Windsor Plans More Street Closures Near Bridge Amid Concerns

DETROIT (AP) - Officials in Windsor, Ontario, plan another road closure near the Ambassador Bridge amid concerns about fallen debris from the international span linking the city with Detroit.

The Detroit Free Press reports Thursday University Drive near the bridge has reopened. Now, officials say, Riverside Drive will close and remain so until the repairs are completed to prevent more falling debris.

Streets were closed last month as a precaution after a visual inspection of the bridge's underside. Those reopened after Detroit International Bridge Co. installed planking on sections of the underside.

Bridge Co. President Dan Stamper has said officials "installed a retention system under the bridge out of caution."

Bridge owner Manuel "Matty" Moroun seeks to build a new span adjacent to the current bridge, but efforts have been stymied.
