Wild Weather Ahead: Near-Record Warm Temps On Friday Followed By Chance Of Snow

DETROIT (WWJ) - Michiganders are used to experiencing crazy weather changes at the drop of a dime, and this weekend will be no different.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore said things are going to warm up over the next couple of days before we get our first real taste of winter.

"We'll have near record warmth on Friday, breezy with sun and clouds, the high near the record of 69 set in 1941," he said. "But it will be sharply different this weekend, 40s on Saturday with showers in the afternoon and then rain and snow showers on Sunday with highs in the 30s."

DeVore didn't have any estimations on snowfall totals, but he did say it could be "significant."

"In terms of sticking to the ground, I think we could have some of that this weekend, to be honest with you," he said. "There could be some places where some of it sticks to the ground. The best chance for that probably would be the first hours of Sunday morning, but I don't think it's going to affect a commute or anything. There may be some slick spots."

It's not the snow we should be worried about, according to DeVore, but the sudden drop in temperature.

"The biggest thing is psychologically, the difference between what it's going to be like this weekend versus what it's going to be like here over the next few days," he said. "We've been in this mild stretch and it continues and actually builds here as we go into the end of the week, but then there's the big, sharp change this weekend."
