Wayne State board member Kim Trent resigned to join the Whitmer administration.

"It's imperative to have someone on the board who will focus on addressing the problems that are currently facing Wayne State. We must put the students first," Whitmer said Thursday.

Wayne State's Board of Governors has been deeply split on the performance of President Roy Wilson.

Stancato is the former president and chief executive officer of New Detroit, a racial justice organization. She also worked in banking and has degrees from Wayne State.
