What Happened In That Garage? Officials Await Autopsy Results For Bodies Of Police Officer, Friend

DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ/AP) - Authorities investigating the deaths of a Dearborn Heights police officer and his friend have ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning and a murder-suicide.

State police Lt. Mike Shaw told reporters that "everything else is on the table" as investigators await autopsy results for 44-year-old Dearborn Heights police Sgt. John Burdick and 45-year-old James McEwen.

Their bodies were found Friday morning in the detached garage at McEwen's home on Lochdale Street, near Beech Daly and Joy roads. Police say the men were longtime friends.

Shaw said foul play can't be ruled out until autopsy results are received, which is expected to happen sometime this weekend. He said the case remains a homicide investigation, until proven otherwise.

Investigators spent Friday interviewing potential witnesses, including a few people who'd stayed at the home the previous night and were there when the bodies were found.
