Police Bust Suspected Meth Lab In Westland; 1 In Custody

WESTLAND (WWJ) - A HAZMAT crew was on the scene Sunday as Michigan State Police raided an alleged methamphetamine lab in a Westland neighborhood.

According to police, the lab was dismantled and highly toxic, hazardous chemicals and other components were removed from the garage of a home in the 34000 block of Decatur Court, near Wayne Road.

"I can't get into too many details as to what was out there but I can confirm that is was equipment that was made to manufacture methamphetamine," said Westland Police Sgt. Robert Wilkie.

Police said a call from a suspicious neighbor led to the bust. They called it a "dangerous operation." The chemicals have since been destroyed.

Wilkie said person of interest in the case was arrested on an outstanding warrant that he had with a nearby community, police said. His name was not immediately released.

Any possible charges are pending as an investigation continues.
