Western Michigan Man Jailed On Child Porn And Sex Abuse Charges

HASTINGS, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A 69-year-old western Michigan man is facing state and federal charges after a family member found film of a little girl being sexually abused.

David Heinsen is charged with child pornography crimes. Separately, he appeared in Barry County court Wednesday on first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.

The Grand Rapids Press and WOOD-TV report that an investigation revealed a huge collection of child pornographic images at Heinsen's Nashville, Michigan, home — about 50 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.

Investigators allegedly found 650,000 images and 3,000 videos of sexually abusive material of children of all ages, including toddlers. Many of the images show children being sexually abused and tortured.

WOOD reports that Heinsen told police his preference is girls 10 to 12 years old. He also allegedly said that he had sexually abused girls in the past, including his neighbor in 1989. The victim, who has Down's syndrome, was then 8 years old and unable to describe the abuse.

A federal magistrate judge in Grand Rapids ordered Heinsen to jail Monday without bond. An email seeking comment was sent to his attorney.

A grand jury returned an indictment last week, accusing Heinsen of receiving and possessing child porn.
