Western Michigan Man Charged With Multiple Sexual Assaults Involving Minors

LUDINGTON, Mich. (AP) — Western Michigan authorities say a 59-year-old man has been charged with five counts of sexual assault involving three people ranging from under 13 to at least 17.

Mason County prosecutor Paul Spaniola says Arturo Lopez of Ludington was arraigned Friday on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two third-degree counts on Tuesday. Lopez has been jailed and no attorney is listed for him.

Ludington police officials say they were contacted by authorities in Cicero, Illinois, about the alleged Michigan assaults. Ludington police Chief Mark Barnett says Chicago-area authorities also were investigating local allegations against Lopez.

The Associated Press left a message Friday afternoon seeking more information from Cicero police.

Authorities say Lopez knew the people involved.

Lopez's preliminary examination is scheduled for March 23.
