Police Situation In West Bloomfield Neighborhood Resolves Peacefully

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - Local residents were asked to avoid the area, late Thursday morning, as multiple police officers surrounded a home in West Bloomfield.

Tipsters calling WWJ Newsradio 950 reported seeing as many as eight police vehicles, along with EMS and a fire truck, at the scene on Bloomfield Park Dr. off Middle Belt Rd., in the area of Walnut Lake Rd. and Lone Pine.

According to Police Chief Michael Patton, there was a man holed up in the house, believed to be suicidal. He was despondent, Patton said, and police were "going easy with him."

Witnesses said officers had their guns drawn, but no shots were fired.

Later in the afternoon, police told WWJ the situation had resolved peacefully, and police had left the scene after determining that they were not needed.

Police said the man suffers from some mental issues, but it's unclear that prompted police to go to the home. No further details were released and no injuries were reported.
