Welcome Planned After Michigan St. Wins Rose Bowl

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State University is getting ready to welcome back the Spartans following their Rose Bowl victory.

The East Lansing school's athletics department says fans wishing to greet the football team should wait Thursday night at the Skandalaris Football Center. People are being asked to stay away from Lansing's airport, since access to the team isn't planned there.

No. 4 Michigan State beat No. 5 Stanford 24-20 Wednesday night.

East Lansing Fire Department Lt. Chuck Gagnier tells the Lansing State Journal it was "fairly quiet" in the hometown of the Spartans afterward. WLNS-TV reports five fires, mostly furniture burned outside. WILX-TV reports extra police patrols took place.

Last month, a rowdy celebration of Michigan State's victory over Ohio State in the Big Ten championship included dozens of fires and prompted arrests.
